Meet Curie: The Unofficial Mascot of IIT Kanpur by Vishal

Let's talk about Curie, the retriever at iit kanpur, when we visited for a competition. When we arrived at the assigned hostel this cute buddy was playing joyfully with the boys out there! Once our chores were completed we went out searching for this cutie. We found it nowhere but the canteen! As we made a few friends there we asked them the story of her. They began by telling us that she used to live 5 blocks away from there.

Curie instantly became a beloved member of the community. She had a knack for making everyone smile, from stressed-out students to busy faculty members. Her favorite hangout spots included the canteen, where she often scored free treats, and the library steps, where she basked in the sun while students petted her. Over time, Curie became more than just a campus dog; she was a symbol of companionship and joy. Everyone knew Curie, and she knew everyone, always ready to offer a wagging tail and a playful bark, making IIT Kanpur feel a little more like home.

Curie's daily routine was as charming as it was predictable. Every morning, she would trot over to the canteen, greeting the early risers with her happy demeanor. The canteen staff had a soft spot for her and would sneak her some biscuits or a piece of bread. After her breakfast, Curie would wander to the sports field, where she played with other puppies and squirrels. Her boundless energy and playful nature made her a favorite among the athletes.
Evenings were Curie’s busiest times. She would make her rounds to the various hostels, where she was greeted like a celebrity. Students would call out her name, and she would bound over to them, tail wagging furiously. She had a way of knowing who needed a little extra cheer, whether it was someone missing home or someone stressed about an upcoming exam. Curie’s affectionate nuzzles and playful antics provided a much-needed distraction.
When we were working late night for our projects she would just come to sit with us while we did the stuff and provided the best companionship. She would sit and listen to our conversations as if she understood every word. Her eyes would twinkle with curiosity and her ears would perk up at the sound of laughter. Once we felt tired we used to play with a tennis ball in the garden where she would join us running around, jumping and chasing the ball.

Our time at IIT Kanpur was unforgettable, and meeting Curie was undoubtedly one of the highlights. She wasn’t just a pet; she was a friend, a comforter, and a source of endless joy. As we left the campus, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for having crossed paths with such a remarkable companion. Curie’s legacy of love and happiness continues to thrive at IIT Kanpur, touching the lives of everyone she meets.
